What is a pedicure and what are the benefits?
A pedicure is a beauty treatment for your feet, which is carried out by a pedicurist, who removes dead skin, softens hard skin and shapes and treats toe-nails. The pedicurist will begin with a therapeutic foot bath or spa, where your feet are soaked and cleansed in warm, scented water. Some foot-baths are like a mini-Jacuzzi for your feet. Creams or aromatherapy oils will be massaged into your feet to refresh and soften your skin, your cuticles will be removed and your toenails cut and shaped. Many pedicurists will give you an acupressure or reflexology-based foot massage to really relax you and make you feel as though you are walking on air. Good foot care treatment is vital, as it prevents skin problems such as: callouses, as well as in-growing toenails and other related infections. Regular pedicure treatment sessions can help your posture, by treating the in-growing toenails and enabling you to walk more comfortably by ensuring that your feet are not swollen or you are not suffering from any discomfort.
A pedicurist is not a chiropodist, does not perform medical procedure and does not replace treatment from a chiropodist. Although a regular pedicure can support the treatment you are having from a chiropodist, and can in fact prevent you from needing further chiropodist treatment.
A chiropodist is a medically-trained professional, who is qualified to diagnose and treat medical problems and carry out preventative care on your feet. This may involve minor surgical procedures such as: cutting dead skin and treating in growing toenails.

They will also use oils, creams and waxes to exfoliate, cleanse, and improve the texture of your nails, shape your nails, care for your cuticles and generally improve the look and feel of your hands by using a range of massage techniques to relax your hands, fingers and whole body.
